About Us
Cause Celeb was founded by Catherine Carnie following 12 years experience as a celebrity strategist with several UN agencies. Whilst collaborating with celebrities at UNICEF she recognised their desire to be truly effective.
Cause Celeb’s mission is to assist celebrities to authentically engage in productive cause related activities. A degree in drama and a background in TV and Theatre equipped Catherine to successfully represent UNICEF, UNAIDS and Netaid (UNDP) within the celebrity environment. Her work has taken her across the world to developing countries and regions of conflict. During the Balkan wars she worked with Vanessa Redgrave, Harvey Keitel and Rade Serbezia - participating in UNICEF assisted arts led psycho-social programmes, in all of the republics.
In Africa her focus was HIV/AIDS. Travelling with journalists across seven African countries, she worked together with George Weah, John Fashanu and Kalusha Bwalya to mobilise the world of African football to adopt the HIV/AIDS cause. Whilst at UNAIDS, she developed the initiative into the ‘Play Safe’ campaign with Ronaldo. In the UK she has worked with MTV’s President, Bill Roedy, Audrey Hepburn, Sir Peter Ustinov, Sir Roger Moore and Harvey Goldsmith on cause related projects.
Identifying the need for a professional, informed service for cause/celebrity relations she returned to university, in 2002, to undertake an MA in International Relations. Her thesis on the role of celebrity within the humanitarian world informs and underpins the services of Cause Celeb. She is fluent in German and speaks French, Croatian and Serbian.
